BIG FAM DISCO is a DJ collective that supports local mendip community events and non-for-profit organisations. Through sponsorship and funding from local entities we appear and perform DJ sets with the aim of making DJ equipment available and accessible to everyone.
Amongst our team we have DJ'ed for over 30 years and played some of the UK's largest festivals and nightclubs - no name dropping - we are ego-free. Now we bring the vibes to any local event, cafe, nightclub, village show, roller disco and everything in between. Whatever the event, we tailor the party to suit.
Our collective is formed of proud parents, music producers, musical educators, social influencers, graphic designers. Collaboration is our strength and we are always looking for like minded people to join us.
Please support us by following our main socials Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, and more importantly, come see us in person!

ABOUT US

our collaborators

Our main collaborator is the fantastic charity Children's World in Glastonbury, several times a year we host friendly day rave events together. The focus is on crowd participation and access to equipment. We run an open deck policy in the main room led by the team, a second room with more decks accessible, and third room with often a craft space and sensory area.

Every three weeks we DJ at the excellent all ages Shepton Mallet Roller Disco Get Ur Skates On. Expect anything dance music related from one of our team, or sometimes younger generation DJs who have spent time at our other events

Do get in touch via the contact page if you would like to collaborate or have us at your event

Lee Richardson
During the 90's Lee was immersed in rave culture and saw the rise in Jungle, Drum and Bass and Happy Hardcore. Later he was involved in FM pirate radio and internet radio InterFACE. Meeting the breakbeat scene's Vlad Sokolov solidified his and long-time friend Steve Baxter's interest in producing nuskool breaks under the name Diverted. During the 00's they released across many labels including Rennie Pilgrem's TCR, Ali B's Air Recordings and started their own label Diverted Traffic. Touring took them to Australia, US, Russia, Hungary, Spain whilst back in the UK playing at some of the most iconic clubs and events Global Gathering, Glade Festival, The End, Fabric, Cargo and many more. Lee also had a career in higher education as a university technician and lecturer and brings that skill to Big Fam Disco as well as his current career as a stock music composer and producer in TV, advertising and film.

Alex Lane
Alex (a.k.a. DRUMMA) is a DJ and Producer hailing from London but now based in Somerset. Often collaborating with Miss Medik, together they have released on a number of liquid dnb labels and DJ'd in and around the south west. Alex is also an in-demand educator in Somerset teaching drums, music production and DJing. Alex and Lee's story goes back to 2007 at the University of Hertfordshire. Alex was studying Music Technology and so both Lee and Alex would cross paths in the studio and discuss drums and dance music, but mostly drums. 15 years later they happen to live on the same street and Alex re-kindled Lee's interest in DJing through the introduction of DJ Controllers and not long after the concept of Big Fam Disco was born.
Jake Harrison
Jake (a.k.a. Jake Kómma) heads up our social and youtube content and is a well known face and DJ in the Shepton scene. You'll see him everywhere from the Sunday Market to the Art Bank and of course Shepton's roller disco which is where everybody met. Jake's known for playing a mixture of 'anything goes' house music. He is such a a positive and friendly face in the Big Fam team and is often seen encouraging people onto the decks in our demo room or at the Children's World Family Festival.
